Msgr Emmet Fagan
Our buddy Msgr Emmet was named Interim Vicar of the Western Vicariate of Rockville Center on November 19, 2001. Bishop Murphy expressed his enormous respect for Msgr Fagan, calling him a "distinguished priest" having "the affection and respect of the presbyterate".Congratulations Emmet.

Rockville Centre -Msgr. Robert Emmet Fagan was named Interim Vicar of the Western Vicariate of the diocese in an appointment announced by Bishop William Murphy at the November 19 monthly meeting of the bishop's presbyteral council.
Bishop Murphy expressed his "enormous respect" for Msgr. Fagan, calling him a "distinguished priest" who has "the respect and affection of the presbyterate," the priests who serve the diocese. Bishop Murphy added that he is sure Msgr. Fagan will do an "outstanding job" in his new position. ...
Msgr. Fagan, who uses and is known by nearly everyone by his middle name Emmet, has served the Diocese of Rockville Centre in a number of capacities. Currently serving as associate pastor of St. Jude's Church, Mastic Beach, he previously was pastor of St. Patrick's, Bay Shore, from 1983-2000. Before that his parish work had included serving as associate pastor of Maria Regina Church, Seaford, and administrator of Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, Roosevelt.
For the 23 years before he became pastor of St. Patrick's, Msgr. Fagan was associated with diocesan Catholic Charities. He earned a master's degree in social work at Fordham University during his early years at Charities, and eventually served as executive director and then diocesan director. He also was a chairman of the Diocesan Committee for Justice and Peace.
His community activities have included serving as president of the Suffolk Community Council, vice-president of the Suffolk Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, and vice-president of the State Association for Community Services. In 1980 he was elected to represent Long Island at the White House Conference on Families.
In his service to the Diocese of Rockville Centre, Msgr. Fagan -who was named an Honorary Prelate to His Holiness Pope John Paul II, with the title "monsignor," in 1980 -has been 'a member of the Priests ' Advisory Council, the Senior Priests Committee, the Task Force to determine Diocesan Priorities, the Stipend Committee for Religious, the Human Development Board, the Diocesan Development Committee and the Lay Pension Plan Committee.
For several years he served as coordinator of the diocesan Committee for Community Interests. He represented the diocese on the Public Policy Committee of the New York State Catholic Conference and served as the regional representative of the National Conference of Catholic Charities from 1974-1980. He also represented the diocese on the Interfaith Council of Long Island.
Born in Brooklyn in 1930, Msgr. Fagan attended Brooklyn Preparatory High School and studied for two years at St. Peter's College in Jersey City, New Jersey. He then studied for the priesthood at Immaculate Conception Seminary, Huntington, and in 1955 was ordained. a priest for the Diocese of Brooklyn (which included all of Long Island until the 1957 creation of the Diocese of Rockville Centre). His brother, Msgr. John Fagan of the Diocese of Brooklyn, is executive vice president and chief executive officer of Little Flower Children's Services, Wading River
